Re: Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-1
We lost, we move on. Yet again we made a slow start in comparison to the opposition. Bilic referred, not for the first time, to how Newcastle were more up and at things compared to us. It really needs to be sorted. Two goal deficits are harder to pull back but when we upped our game, and had a better formation, we had a couple of genuine chances to equalise.

This performance and result should help us get a realistic perspective on how our season will pan out.

Re: Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-1
Its always our instinct to say we played badly, had an off day and yes it seemed that way but for me the cause was actually Newcastle's tactics which were very effective. They played the high pressing game and gave us no time on the ball especially in the first half. They were also more aggressive in challenges and first to the 2nd ball. Mcclaren got his tactics right against us it exposed one of our weakness (which pre dates Bilic ) which is pace and mobility as a team.

Collectively, Newcastle were quicker and stronger and played a faster, passing game. Their slick passing game was enabled largely through their movement. They were better at it and we did not match that movement or speed for much of the game although they tired second half as its hard to keep that pressure up. The defence and midfield were not helped by Valencia up top who provides no outlet for a more direct ball out from the back or midfield as he cannot hold it up due to his lack of physical presence.

In summary, we did not work hard enough defensively as a team in that first 20 - 30 minutes but part of that is we perhaps need one or two better midfielders and a better holding striker. Teams that close us quickly are our achilles heal :-(

Collins injured himself in the first ten. Looked a bit ponderous after.

Antonio had a poor game, should have moved him to the left to help Cresswell.

This mindset from some on here that no constructive critiicism is allowed is massive cringe. Soppy cunts.

Not angry or upset over a difference of opinion. It's a similar reaction to whatI'd expect if I suggested we should be starting Elliot Lee over Sakho.

Ohbonna in the fireing line now who's next.
Fucking hell, one bad performance and the lynch mob are out.

Re: Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-1
Its harsh but the fact is, play your best team and Collins should be taken out for Reid as soon as Reid is ready to start a game.

Also, Tomkins at RB is good in games where we are best suited to counter attacking, but in a game where we should be able to take it to our opponents, Jenkinson or whoever we sign should be playing.

Noble & Kouyate poor again yesterday. Obiang had his worst game. Payet was also off-form. Valencia not strong enough. Jelavic I was happy with. I think one of the CM's should've come off for Moses and leave Antonio on to give them more to think about.

To clarify, I'm not saying I don't rate Ogbonna, as I think he's decent without being anything special, but we ere are pretty well covered in that area. and I would like to see Oxford and Burke fighting for a spot there.

So let's not start getting all upset and angry if some don't have the same view as you on a forum. Take a deep breath.

Didn't see the game but find it ASTONISHING that people are questioning Ogbonna's place in the team.

They clearly don't have a clue.

Re: Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-1
Just my twopenneth:

Too slow to close the player down for their first goal, had a free shot at goal.

Cresswell got caught and roasted for the second from a superb Shelvey pass:

Shelvey had a free run in midfield and did what he liked, we made him look world class. He should have been tracked and marked by someone, Obiang, Noble. Even after he set up both goals he was still free afterwards and in the 2nd half. I partially blame Bilic for that.

Shit day - move on to Man City who pulverised Palace yesterday - Ha Ha.

Re: Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-1
Agree that Ogbonna has been very good alongside Collins. They are both playing on merit. For a big strong lad he has a bit of pace and being able to use his left foot is an advantage. Even seen him come out with the ball and his passing isn't the worst.
Like all players he can have a bad game but often the defense looks bad when the midfielders are not doing their jobs.

Nobody was tracking Jaanmat yesterday in the first half and the Newcastle runners from midfield weren't tracked either which meant the centre halves got pulled about.

Ogbonna?

Do you actually watch West Ham games?

He is one of the main reasons are defence has been so good in the last couple of months.

The pair of you need to start watching games.

Ogbonna was always a strange one despite what some on here will tell you.

Re: Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-1
I'm going to be controversial here. I remain unconvinced by Ogbonna and would place him fourth behind Reid Tomkins and Collins in central defence. I'd also like to see Oxford and Burke( when he ever comes back) given a chance soon. We are now surplus in that department and I'd put Ogbonna up for transfer.

Re: Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-1
Noble tries and fails to emulate Scott Parker with his twists and turns in the middle of the park. Their first goal was not directly from one of his cabbage attempts but did come very shortly after. He's not strong or quick in the turn like Scotty was so they nick the ball from him easily. Too much of a liability for me with a bad mistake every game. Bad day at the office yesterday but we will bounce back.

Re: Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-1
Even God forbid if we lose the next five games by 3 goals I am still happier than I have been as a West Ham fan for around three years football wise.
We look like a team sure we look a bit stretched at the back and Adrian has to do his impersonation of Super man to keep us in games but everything is coming up smelling of juicy sweet strawberries.
All is good believe me, ALL IS GOOD !
